The Faculty of Dentistry, Dalhousie University, is seeking applications for a full-time tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Oral Sciences. The Department is a multidisciplinary basic science department within the Faculty of Dentistry. Faculty interests include biomaterials and biomedical devices, tissue mechanics, cell/implant interactions, microbiology, and local therapeutic delivery. To complement the research conducted within the Faculty, applications are being sought from candidates with strong research expertise in pathogen-biomaterial-host interactions, or biomaterials-based infections. Applicants specializing in novel approaches to harnessing the body’s immune system to achieve better outcomes in tissue engineering, regeneration, and/or therapeutic delivery are also strongly encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in one of the following areas: Microbiology, Immunology, biomolecular sciences or a related discipline; and will have academic or industrial post-doctoral experience. This individual will be expected to compete effectively for extramural research funding and maintain an active research program. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in the Faculty of Dentistry where appropriate, and to actively engage in graduate student supervision in the Faculty of Dentistry or in a relevant academic unit within the Faculty of Medicine, including but not limited to the Department of Microbiology & Immunology and the School of Biomedical Engineering.
