Responsibilities
- Conduct the molecular (B cell receptor cloning), biochemical (production and purification of antigens), immunological analysis (ELISPOT, ELISA, flow cytometry), and assays that measure B cell responses in genetically altered mice
- Designing, planning and executing research projects
- Supervising other research staff
- Working with multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional teams
- Presenting research findings to PI’s and other members of the research team
- Conducting data analysis and reporting
- Ensuring project goals are met within the context of the larger program
- Liaising with collaborators and assisting in the compilation, analysis and reporting of research findings to researchers within and outside of the program
Beyond these responsibilities, the individual is expected to participate in the preparation of grant applications. At all times, the individual is expected to support the overall research and teaching missions of the lab. The incumbent will be expected to perform research with a high degree of independence and will design, direct, execute, analyze and present in written and oral forms novel investigative studies that build on and/or take advantage of the resources and expertise within the lab as well as incumbent’s academic expertise.
- A PhD in a relevant scientific field with at least 6 years of postdoctoral and/or faculty experience or equivalent and a strong publication record
- Experience with techniques used in B cell receptor cloning (including antigen identification), B cell signaling/activation/secondary diversification
- Experience in cloning and in vivo mouse infection and autoimmune models essential
-Experience preparing single cell suspensions from complex tissues (kidney, gut, brain) is essential
- General knowledge of immunology and mucosal B cells in infectious disease.
- Ability to develop an independent research program and to independently direct projects
- Previous supervisory and teaching experience will be required in order for the successful candidate to contribute to the guidance of technicians and trainees as well as participate in the teaching mission of the lab
- Experience preparing manuscripts for submission to peer-review publications/journals, writing or helping to write grants, and presenting findings at local, national, or international conferences

The Department of Immunology in the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) for an immunologist with experience in mucosal B cell immunology, Rotavirus infection studies, B cell class switch and characterization of B cell phenotype and specificity. The applicant should have a general knowledge in immunology, mucosal immunology, signal transduction and the secondary diversification of B cell receptors. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting molecular and cellular characterization of mucosal B cells and the mechanisms by which these B cells are recruited into immune responses to enteric viral infection.
