Job Description / Duties

A position is available for a PhD scientist in the laboratories of Dr. Ted Steiner and Dr. Megan Levings at BCCHRI.
The successful candidate will assist the Principal Investigators in the development, writing, submission and management of grants, reports, and scientific manuscripts; the design, implementation, and data analysis and interpretation of lab-based and clinical translational projects; and direct supervision of research assistants and trainees.
This appointment is for a one year term.
Organizational status:
The successful candidate will report to the principal investigators directly.
Responsibilities include:
- Provides input into writing research proposals and writes significant portions of grant applications.
- Develops and recommends project budgets, monitors expenditure of funds relative to budget, ensures appropriate, transparent justifications for expenditures.
- Participates in the development and implementation of new projects, by developing new material and protocols, researching and sourcing equipment, and recommending staff and resource requirements.
- Responds to ongoing requests for regular reports by maintaining and updating information to ensure compliance with granting agencies and other external organizations.
- Prepares Research Ethics Board applications and amendments as required, and ensure compliance with research Ethics Board guidelines.
- Identifies new translational pathways, such as partnerships, licensing, etc. for new technologies and encourages entrepreneurial activities as appropriate.
- Conducts literature reviews relating to research areas. Contributes intellectual and scientific input to manuscripts for publication, provides scientific editing and proofreading.
Supervision given: The Research Associate will directly supervise graduate students, Postdoctoral Fellows, Undergraduate students, and Research Assistants in the design and interpretation of experiments.
Supervision received: The RA will report to the principle investigators and receive supervision from them.
Consequence of error / judgement:
Errors will impact subsequent work on this project.

Qualifications / Required Skills

- Ph.D. degree and substantive postdoctoral experience in a basic research laboratory, with expertise in:
I. Human and mouse immunology
II. T cell isolation, culture, expansion, and characterization
III. Complex flow cytometry and cell sorting
IV. Analysis of antigen-specific CD4+ T cells in peripheral blood and tissues
V. Human inflammatory bowel disease and infectious colitis

Salary: 58000
