Postdoctoral Fellow - Univeristy of Manitoba

Province: Winnipeg, Manitoba
Position: Postdoctoral Fellow
Deadline: February 15, 2020
Posted: January 26, 2020

Job Description / Duties

We are seeking a post-doctoral research fellow to lead research projects in the area of B lymphocyte biology and signal transduction in the context of humoral immunity, autoimmunity and B cell malignancies. Dysregulated B cell activation underpins several disease states, including B cell malignancies and autoantibody-mediated diseases. Our focus is on the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) signal transduction pathway, which is critical for B cell function. One critical aspect of cell biology controlled by PI3Ks is metabolic reprogramming, which is required for B cells to function optimally in different microenvironments. Our goals are to functionally dissect the regulators and downstream targets of PI3K in B cells and identify specific signaling and metabolic enzymes as novel therapeutic targets. Projects utilize novel mouse models to assess the functional roles of signal transduction molecules and downstream metabolic targets as well as human cell studies working with samples from patients.

Our highly collaborative research team is located in the Department of Immunology’s well equipped open-concept laboratory which hosts core facilities for flow cytometry, live cell confocal imaging and lentiviral vector work. The University of Manitoba is comprised of close to 30,000 students and 9,000 faculty and staff. Winnipeg is a vibrant, prairie city with a population exceeding 700,000, and provides world-class arts and entertainment, professional sports teams and an affordable, balanced lifestyle.

Qualifications / Required Skills

A strong academic background and experience in relevant areas such as immunology, molecular/cellular biology and/or working with mouse models of disease are important assets for this position. Candidates within 5 years of completing their PhD are preferred.
