Postdoctoral Fellow - Ottawa Hospital Research Institute

Province: Ottawa, Ontario
Position: Postdoctoral Fellow
Deadline: January 21, 2022

Job Description / Duties

A postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Dr. Angela M. Crawley at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI), starting as early as Feb 2022. The postdoctoral fellow will be a part of the Ottawa Viral and Metabolic Liver Disease Research Group at The Ottawa Hospital and affiliated with the University of Ottawa Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Immunology and the Center for Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation at the University of Ottawa (Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA)
The fellow will work to understand the immunological and metabolic mechanisms underlying CD8+ T-cell and/or macrophage dysfunction in chronic liver diseases with advanced liver fibrosis. The research is focused on chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in humans. This project will take advantage of approaches we have developed to conduct research using human primary cells and animal models of liver disease. Specifically, we aim to understand the mechanisms underlying lasting immune cell dysfunction in individuals with advanced liver fibrosis. This research hopes to uncover targets for immune restoration to reduce negative clinical outcomes such as impaired responses to infection and liver cancer as well as poor responses to vaccination and immunotherapy. The postdoc will work as part of a dynamic and motivated laboratory team investigating immune dysfunction in chronic liver disease.
