Job Description / Duties

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology (MIMM) and the Goodman Cancer Research Centre (GCRC) of McGill University invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level. We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated potential for creativity and excellence whose research interests focus on the field of innate and/or adaptive immunity in the context of cancer initiation, metastatic progression and therapy response.

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology is a dynamic and research-intensive department with 17 primary faculty and 40 associate members who bring cutting edge molecular, cellular, immunological and systems approaches to the study of infectious and immune-related disease. The Department’s research mission is closely aligned with the McGill Interdisciplinary Initiative in Infection and Immunity (MI4), which unites over 200 investigators at McGill University and its affiliated hospitals to accelerate the development and implementation of innovative solutions for infectious and immune threats to human health.

The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre has established a position of leadership in cancer research within the McGill and Montreal research communities, as well as at the national and international levels. The GCRC has developed a high impact, cutting edge scientific program applying state-of-the-art technology in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment to illuminate the most important fundamental aspects of cancer development and progression. The ultimate goal is to improve outcomes for cancer patients, facilitated by our growing network of clinician and clinician-scientist partners at McGill-affiliated hospitals and research institutes.

Recruiting in the area of immuno-oncology will strengthen interactions between researchers in MIMM and the GCRC with the goal of developing an extended network in immuno-oncology.

The Department seeks a creative scientist whose basic or translational research focuses on the function of the immune system in the pathogenesis of cancer, progression to metastatic disease, or therapeutic response in cancer patients or pre-clinical cancer models.

The successful applicant will be expected to establish and carry out an externally funded research program that integrates with existing strengths within MIMM and the GCRC and includes training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. They will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate medical teaching.

McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is expected.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree (or equivalent qualification) with a strong background in immunology and cancer and should have at least four years of postdoctoral research training. Collaborative experience is an asset.
