Job Description / Duties

The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Microbiology & Immunology at Western University is seeking a candidate for a position as Assistant Professor in our undergraduate academic curriculum. This is a five-year, limited-term position in which the candidate will be expected to primarily teach and develop curriculum in our undergraduate program in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. The responsibilities of this position will include teaching and/or coordinating/co-coordinating in selected lecture and laboratory courses and providing instructors with teaching support in the Microbiology & Immunology undergraduate program. There will also be a service requirement that includes participation on departmental committees, especially the undergraduate education committee and outreach committee, and in academic counselling. The candidate will also be required to conduct research that may either be pedagogical or basic science in nature.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate must hold a PhD (or equivalent) in one of the disciplines of Microbiology, Immunology, Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology or Biochemistry. A strong background in online learning and/or statistics would be an asset. Candidates must have teaching experience at the undergraduate level that includes both lecture and laboratory-based courses. Furthermore, the candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and must be able to work independently. Compensation for this position will commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Research spans key areas of infection and immunity, namely the molecular and cellular biology of microorganisms and viruses, as well as the cellular and molecular biology of the immune system.
