Job Board > Postdoctoral Fellow - Vaccine Immunology - Simon Fraser University
The Pantophlet Lab is seeking bright, skilled and highly self-motivated PhD students with graduate training in microbiology, immunology, virology, molecular biology or a closely related discipline wishing to pursue postdoctoral training in vaccine immunology. Specifically, a postdoctoral fellow is being sought to contribute to ongoing investigations focused on understanding antigenic and immunogenic presentations impacting the ontogeny of broadly neutralizing antibodies to influenza.
Our research mainly concerns flu and HIV-1 and the overall objective of our work is to develop novel strategies and approaches for the design of novel vaccine component to elicit virus-neutralizing antibodies. The incumbent will be part of a CIHR-funded project examining the immunogenic requirements for triggering the development of broadly neutralizing antibodies to the stem region of flu HA and in-depth characterization of polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies recovered from human-antibody transgenic animals.
Key responsibilities:
• Perform experiments, validate data and analyze results
• Present research at laboratory meetings
• Present research at national and international conferences
• Write/Co-write scientific papers and review articles
• Contribute to the training of student trainees
• Contribute to a positive lab/work environment
Applicants should ideally be within 1 year of having obtained their PhD and be demonstrably competitive to acquire CIHR postdoctoral fellowship funding.
• Recent PhD degree in immunology, virology, microbiology or a closely related discipline
• Ability to work both independently and with others
• Demonstrable leadership potential/qualities
• Highly proficient in flow cytometry and data analysis (e.g., FlowJo)
• Strong experience in molecular biology, biochemistry or immunochemical techniques
• Excellent hands-on knowledge of cell and tissue culture techniques (e.g., transfection, transduction, cell line generation)
• Excellent lab book/data management/record keeping abilities
• Experience with statistical analysis and data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, JMP)
Applicants should send an email to Dr. Ralph Pantophlet. The email must include:
(a) A description of short- and long-term career goals and how joining the Pantophlet Lab fits within these goals;
(b) A detailed CV outlining academic history, all academic activities (e.g., publications, teaching, undergraduate/graduate student supervision, seminars/journal clubs), and relevant non-academic activities (e.g., volunteerism, leadership positions); and
(c) A list with the names of (at least) three academic references able to speak to the research, intellectual, and leadership abilities of the prospective candidate.
Salary: Commensurate with CIHR levels and based on experience (min. $38K + stat benefits)
