Job Board > Postdoctoral Fellow - University of Toronto
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Goetz Ehrhardt at the University of Toronto. Dr. Ehrhardt’s laboratory is focusing on harnessing the VLR antibodies of the evolutionary distant sea lamprey for biomarker discovery approaches. Unlike conventional antibodies, the VLR antibodies of the sea lamprey use the beta-sheet forming leucine-rich repeat as basic structural unit. The resulting distinct protein architecture and the large evolutionary distance of jawless vertebrates suggest that VLR antibodies may bind to epitopes that conventional antibodies cannot readily recognize for structural or tolerogenic reasons. We are investigating the use of monoclonal VLR antibodies to specifically detect lymphocytic cell populations to which no conventional antibodies have been isolated. The candidate’s project is directed towards biomarker discovery targeting memory B cells and plasma cells.
The successful candidate should be highly motivated and hold a recent PhD in Immunology or a related discipline. Solid background in molecular and cellular biology techniques is required. Experience in working with library display systems (yeast display, phage display) will be of advantage.
The position is open until filled. The initial term of the contract will be for one year with the possibility of renewal.
Salary: $41,000 per annum (plus benefits)
