Job Board > Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology - University of Toronto
A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Götz Ehrhardt at the University of Toronto. We developed a technology aimed at harnessing variable lymphocyte receptor (VLR) antibodies of the evolutionary distant sea lamprey for biomarker discovery approaches. Unlike conventional antibodies, the VLR antibodies of the sea lamprey use the beta-sheet forming leucine-rich repeat as basic structural unit. The resulting distinct protein architecture and the large evolutionary distance of jawless vertebrates suggest that VLR antibodies may bind to epitopes that conventional antibodies cannot readily recognize for structural or tolerogenic constraints. We are investigating the use of monoclonal VLR antibodies to specifically detect malignant cells and explore their potential as novel diagnostic, prognostic, or therapeutic reagents.
The successful candidate should be highly motivated and hold a recent PhD in Immunology or a related discipline. Solid background in molecular and cellular biology techniques is required. Experience in protein purification/analysis, recombinant antibody library screening or work with mouse model systems will be of advantage.
Applicants should submit a cover letter describing research experience and interests, a CV and contact information for three references to Dr. Götz Ehrhardt (goetz.ehrhardt@utoronto.ca).
