POSITION SUMMARY
A full-time Research technician or research assistant to conduct lab experiments on specimens from biomedical research studies on HIV immunology.
GENERAL DUTIES
1. Participate in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments;
2. Up-dating of inventories of reagents and biological specimens in the lab and banking of specimens;
3. Prepare materials and equipment. Ensure calibration of scientific instruments and adequate supplies for testing. Perform basic biologic specimen processing;
4. Troubleshoot, correct and adapt published methodologies;
5. Ordering of the research lab reagents;
6. Record results, perform calculations and compile data. Maintain records and files;
7. Keep abreast of new developments in the field to update skills and knowledge, both theoretical and technical;
8. Technical supervision of graduate students and research trainees.
REQUIREMENTS
• Education: MSc or PhD
• Field/Discipline: Immunology, Microbiology, biochemistry
• Experience: ≥ 2 years as research professional
• Lab skills: Multicolor Flow cytometry, Cell and tissue culture, Molecular biology, PCR, qPCR, viral production and culture, Western blotting, ELISA, Immunohistochemistry.
• Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, Graphpad or SPSS
• Languages: Ideally bilingual in French and English.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Status: Full-time
Pay Scale: commensurate with experience and expertise
Work Shift: Generally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Fridays, but some flexibilities are required.
Work Site: Department of Biological Sciences of UQAM
