The Pantophlet lab at SFU-Burnaby is seeking to immediately fill a Research Assistant position to support ongoing NIH- and CIHR-funded research. Candidates will be interviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Research in the Pantophlet lab is dedicated to vaccine immunology, with particular focus on HIV and influenza (http://www.sfu.ca/fhs/people/profiles/ralph-pantophlet.html). A central part of this work involves investigating the interaction of anti-viral antibodies and their somatic precursors with cognate epitopes, dissecting B and T cell responses to prospective 'designer' vaccine immunogens, and probing novel immunization models and platforms.
Applicants to this position must have a Master’s (MSc) or Doctoral (PhD) degree in Immunology, Microbiology, or Biochemistry or a very closely related discipline plus related hands-on laboratory experience. Experience and proficiency must include routine mammalian tissue culture (transfection and cell passaging/maintenance) and practical experience with multi-color flow cytometry (assay set up and data analysis). Experience withmethods for protein purification (affinity, SEC) and molecular biology techniques (gene cloning, PCR) advantageous.
All applicants must must be comfortable working hands-on with human and animal blood products (serum, tissue). They also must have a demonstrated ability to properly record, calculate and plot experimental results using software such as GraphPad Prism and demonstrable ability to work efficiently, thoughtfully and relatively independent.

Salary: Salary will be commensurate with experience, starting at $42K p.a.
