A fully funded PhD graduate student position is available in 2026 in the lab of Dr. Priyanka Pundir, Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, University of Guelph.
The Pundir lab (https://www.pundirlab.com/) studies innate immunity and host-pathogen interactions. This graduate student position focuses on innate immune mechanisms underlying infectious meningitis. In particular, this work will investigate how bacterial molecules influence the immune functions of mast cells in the brain during infection, using custom-designed transgenic mouse models and complementary in vitro systems. The project builds on previous studies in Cell Host Microbe (2019; PMID: 31278040) and Nature (2015; PMID: 25517090).
Working in a highly interdisciplinary environment, the trainee will receive comprehensive training in
• Advanced immunological and microbiological methods,
• Mouse and microbial genetics, receptor pharmacology,
• Animal and cell-based infections models,
• Flow cytometry, imaging, and sequencing-based approaches.
Our lab provides access to cutting-edge facilities, including the Central Animal Facility, Advanced Analysis Centre, Molecular and Cellular Imaging Facility, Flow Cytometry Core, and Genomics Facility.
This position is available for Winter or Spring 2026 start. If the posting is still online, we are actively recruiting the ideal candidate.
• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related field)
• Completion of introductory immunology coursework is preferred.
• Previous laboratory experience with mouse experimentation, tissue culture, and fundamental immunological and molecular biology techniques (such as through an undergraduate research project, volunteering, or similar experience) is an asset.
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
