Postdoctoral Fellow - Available at The Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. The project involves using novel technology to generate human monoclonal antibodies including the application of microfluidics to single cell biology. Using this technology to probe the human repertoire of protective antibodies we have obtained new data that suggests that V-genes encode an innate memory that facilitates the generation of high-affinity antibodies against vulnerable sites on common pathogens. This work has implications for the design of vaccines. Some of these human monoclonal antibodies have potential as therapeutic agents for infectious and diseases like arthritis, asthma and cancer. The open design of the BRC fosters interactions and provides a stimulating, interdisciplinary training environment. The BRC is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities in flow cytometry, mass spectrometry. Candidates should preferably have experience in cellular immunology, flow cytometry, and molecular biology. For more information, please contact John Schrader (john@brc.ubc.ca).
