CSI Student Internship in Immunology (CSI-SII) Award - Application Deadline March 16/12

Goal: To attract talented students to immunology research, the Canadian Society for Immunology (CSI) will provide matching funds to enable undergraduate or recently graduated students to carry out summer research projects in immunology labs within Canada. This year's competition will support up to 5 awards.

Eligibility requirements and guidelines:

  1. The student must have completed either 3 or 4 academic years (or at least 2 academic years in addition to CEGEP).  Students who have completed their undergraduate degree within the last 6 months, and who are not currently enrolled in a graduate program, are also eligible.  In special cases, more junior undergraduate students will be considered for the award provided that they have exceptional qualifications, in particular previous research experience.
  2. The research supervisor must be a faculty member at a Canadian university or a research group leader at a Canadian research institute.  Research supervisor sponsoring a student must hold a CSI membership for the current year as well as have been CSI members in the two previous years. An exception to the requirement of past year’s CSI membership is made for recently appointed faculty members (< 3 years since first appointment). Note: A research supervisor can only be awarded one CSI undergraduate research award every 3 years and can only submit one application per year.
  3. The CSI will pay up to 50% of the student’s total stipend, to a maximum of $2,400.
  4. Completed applications should be e-mailed to info@csi-sci.ca by March 16.  Please include “CSI-SII award” in the subject heading. A copy of the student’s most recent transcript must also be included with the e-mail submission.
  5. Successful student applicants and their research supervisors will be notified by April 16.
  6. At the completion of the summer research project, the student will submit to the CSI (by September 15) a 1-page progress report describing their research accomplishments and what they have gained from their experience.
